Habemus Papam - Leo XIV!
Yesterday, 8 May, we received the great joy that the Cardinals gathered in Conclave had elected a new Pope, Leo XIV.
In his previous ministry as a missionary, he focused on the marginalised and those in need in some of the poorest countries of the world. This will resonate with us and our charism - a charism with whim our Holy Father is not unacquainted having been admitted to the Order as a Bailiff in February of this year.
We can expect a different style of papacy to the late Pope Francis - as always, our Order will continue to pray for the Holy Father and to be obedient to him.
The Conventual Mass this coming Monday (12th May) will be offered as a Mass of thanksgiving for the Holy Father’s election and for his intentions. A reminder too that there will be a Requiem Mass for the late Pope Francis on Wednesday 21st May, marking one month since his death. We have much to thank Pope Francis for as Members of the Order.
In the meantime, we pray as follows:
V. Let us pray for our Pope, Leo.
R. May the Lord preserve him, give him a long life, make him blessed upon the earth, and deliver him not into the power of his enemies.
V. May Your hand be upon Your holy servant.
R. And upon Your son, whom You have anointed.
Our Father … Hail Mary … Glory Be …
Let us pray.
O God, Shepherd and Ruler of all Your faithful people, look mercifully upon Your servant Leo, whom You have chosen as shepherd to preside over Your Church. Grant him, we beseech You, that by his word and example, he may edify those in his care, so that together with the flock committed to him, he may attain everlasting life. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
